Cave Crusaders
A game developed for final year Game Development project alongside a team of 11 other people. This was my first major project working with artists and actually being organised in our work flow. It took a total of about 14 weeks to create the final product that got me 88 points out of 100 and was voted the best game at our University's Expo by industry professionals, ahead of four other games.
The aim of the game is to collect Ore and Energy Crystals by mining different levels of rocks with workers. These workers are spawned at the HQ which can be upgraded using the energy crystals, allowing for the mining of higher level rocks and therefore access to different areas of the map.
Some of the these areas can be dangerous though, containing lava that slowly flows through the level, destroying all buildings and workers that get in its way. As well as this, there are mushrooms that can spawn on the cave floor, spawning slimes which cocoon up and grow into larger monsters that target workers and buildings. There are buildings that can help with these though, the lava blockade will stop lava in its path and the turret will fire at enemies, but make sure they don't run out of power.
Other buildings include: the skip, which increases storage capacity; the Garage, allows for the building of mining and transport vehicles to speed up the game; the Oxygen generator which provides the workers with the oxygen needed for them to breathe; the H2O converter which will convert any water it touches into oxygen; and the power generator which will keep any nearby buildings powered.
